East Midlands: In focus

Counties across the East Midlands are planning for significant levels of sustainable housing and economic growth. Our team is helping to unlock this potential.

The economic context

Such growth across the region is influenced by the following key economic indicators:

  • Population of 4.9 million people
  • Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was £130 billion in 2021 (5.9% of UK GDP)
  • Forecast growth of 8.2% in 2021 and 6.8% in 2022
  • Productivity level is 13% lower than the UK average
  • 11.1% of total jobs in manufacturing
  • Average house price £227,000
  • 396,000 private sector businesses

Growth plans and potential challenges

Our East Midlands team, based out of our recently opened Nottingham office, have their finger on the pulse of the latest local authority policies and publications for the region and have reviewed and analysed these to share a summary of each county’s growth plans, and the potential challenges and opportunities to achieving those.
