Turley collaborates with the LPDF to shine a spotlight on the affordable housing emergency

We have been commissioned by the Land Promoters and Developers Federation (LPDF), alongside Tetlow King Planning, to produce new research which highlights the country’s affordable housing emergency and shows how this has been perpetuated by insufficient new supply.

Our report, which launches today and can be downloaded below, considers:

  • the recent role of the planning system in funding and providing land for new affordable homes;
  • the scale of the shortfall between need and supply;
  • the significant cost to society and individual households;
  • the poor track record of England’s largest urban centres; and
  • the characteristics of areas that have delivered the most affordable homes.

The report shows why the affordable housing emergency must not be ignored as the Government implements its Levelling Up agenda and reforms the planning system. Policy changes must result in the identification and allocation of sites that can significantly boost affordable housing delivery. Local authorities must be held to account to identify a deliverable supply of affordable housing, with the current policy mechanisms clearly failing to ensure this is happening at anywhere near a sufficient scale.
