Planning approval secured for nine development projects at the University of Warwick

We have led the team that has secured approval for a hybrid planning application for nine development projects at the University of Warwick.

The approval will enable the delivery of the university’s Estates Strategy over the next five years and is the latest in a long line of permissions which we have secured during our 16 years as the university’s trusted planning advisor. The university has been implementing its current masterplan since 2009, and during this time we have secured permission for key developments including the University Sports Hub, a new Materials Engineering Centre, a 1,300 space multi-storey car park and Cryfield Residences, a 794-bed student village.

The latest approval will see the development of new teaching and research facilities, new car parks and residences as well as improvements to public realm, accessibility and infrastructure, including:

A new Faculty of Arts on the central campus, creating a space to act as a hub both for public engagement in the arts and humanities and for nurturing cultural value.

A new Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB) at Gibbet Hill, a state of the art building to bring together up to 300 biomedical researchers from across the School of Life Sciences and Warwick Medical School.

The recent approval will help the university fulfil its commitment to making the area a better place to study, live, work and be more sustainable for future generations. The hybrid plans will allow it to modernise and widen its teaching and skills offer, increase the number of Government funded research opportunities and sustain its leading role in the economic, social and cultural growth of the region. They will also deliver the highest quality environment for all students, staff and visitors, which is particularly important in the move towards Coventry’s City of Culture in 2021.

Director, Fran Rowley said:

“We are thrilled to have secured approval for the latest phase of the University of Warwick’s development plans. We have been working with the university since 2003 and have established a strong, long-term relationship underpinned by a deep understanding of the university’s aspirations, the projects and the local area.”

Senior Director, Mike Best added:

“Over the past 16 years we have played a significant role in shaping a better campus for what is consistently one of the top 10 universities in the UK.  Through our excellent working relationship with the University Estates Team we have achieved many permissions to be proud of. I look forward to continuing our work in the future.”
