The UK’s first high energy proton beam therapy centre
Our role
- We successfully secured planning permission from Manchester City Council for the UK’s first high energy Proton Beam Therapy Centre at the Christie Hospital in Withington in September 2014.
- The new Proton Beam Therapy Centre is a high-profile scheme that will bring substantial health and economic benefits to the city region.
- Over the course of the project we provided strategic planning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) advice, including undertaking due diligence and planning risk appraisal, and co-ordinated the submission and determination of the planning application.
Results
- To deliver this commission, we worked closely with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and their contractor (Interserve Construction Limited).
- In doing so, we developed strong relationships with these organisations and have become their trusted town planning adviser and stakeholder engagement specialist. As a result, we have been retained on subsequent projects, including the delivery of further staff parking and the redevelopment of the fire-damaged Paterson building.
