Turley bolsters Landscape and Visual Assessment services

Leading independent planning consultancy Turley has strengthened its Landscape and Visual Assessment services with the appointment of new director Joanna Ede as Head of Landscape and Visual Assessment. Joanna joins Turley from The Landscape Partnership where she had worked for 22 years, most recently as Technical Director.

A Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute, Joanna brings with her 25 years’ professional experience as a landscape planner and landscape architect. Her primary skills lie in the feasibility and development planning stage including in landscape/townscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA/TVIA) and acting as a landscape expert witness. In recent years her focus has been landscape planning projects including landscape appraisals, Green Belt appraisals, LVIAs, TVIAs, and providing landscape evidence for planning appeals.

High-profile developments she has worked on within London include the Neptune Wharf development on Fish Island, Tower Hamlets, the Northern Olympic Fringe Masterplan, and Enderby Wharf in Greenwich. Away from London, Joanna has worked on a 3,500 unit residential development in the Lincolnshire Lakes strategic development area, Victoria Quay, a mixed-use redevelopment in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, and a number of new development projects at the University of Essex including new student residences and research park facilities.

Speaking on her appointment, Joanna said:

“As a specialist in landscape planning and assessment I was attracted by Turley’s strong reputation as a planning practice. The practice is known for its intelligent and rigorous approach to development planning and I was attracted by the opportunity to join the team and grow and develop the visual and landscape assessment services. I was also attracted by the general philosophy and employee ownership of the business which creates a strong and positive work environment.”

Senior Director and Head of Heritage Roger Mascall said:

“Joanna is a highly respected professional and her arrival allows us to broaden our flourishing Visual Impact Assessment service and take it to the next level as an important part of our ‘total planning’ service.”

Joanna is based in Turley’s London office but leads the company’s Landscape and Visual Assessment services through all its offices including acting as an expert witness at planning appeals.
