Sierra Leone 2020: Vistry Partnerships donates safety kit
The Turley Charitable Trust is most grateful to Vistry Partnerships for their generous donation of surplus old branded PPE, including hi-vis jackets, hard hats, mugs and fleeces which will supply the construction team on site at Destiny Village in Sierra Leone, where our team of 11 is heading this week to start the next phase of Home Leone’s ambitious project to build a sustainable new settlement near Freetown.
Home Leone is a UK based charity which we have worked closely with over the last few years to develop a masterplan for Destiny Village, which will eventually see the construction of 344 new homes, primary and secondary schools, healthcare facilities and business space. Home Leone is then working with other agencies to help relocate families from the slums of Freetown.
The initial phase is complete and the first residents moved in during 2019, with the primary school opening in September. Foundations for the next block were laid recently in the presence of Sierra Leone’s Minister for Planning, and our team will start building the next four homes during their visit in late February.
Home Leone has a permanent construction team on site and the generous donation from Vistry Partnerships (which was formed in January when Bovis Homes acquired Galliford Try Partnerships and Linden Homes) will keep them supplied in PPE for the foreseeable future.
