Planning success for Premier Inn, Swindon
Acting on behalf of Whitbread, Turley has secured planning permission for a 194-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and restaurant in Swindon town centre.
The permission was granted by Swindon Borough Council on 3 June.
The site for redevelopment fronts directly onto Regent Street in the town and has been vacant for a number of years. The council were looking to bring it back into long-term use as part of their regeneration of the town centre and Whitbread’s proposed six-storey hotel and restaurant building fitted the bill.
It is expected to create around 45 new permanent jobs and accommodate an expected 90,000 guests a year on opening - creating a predicted £4m of additional visitor spend in the local economy.
Head of Planning South East, Peter Lawson said:
"Whitbread's investment in this key site will assist in regenerating the upper part of Regent Street and will boost footfall both during the daytime and into the evening to the benefit of Swindon town centre as a whole."
Paul Smith, Whitbread’s property acquisitions manager in the south west, said:
"Whitbread's investment will play a pivotal role in Swindon's regeneration plans and will add an excellent and affordable accommodation option in the town for visitors."
