Outline planning permission secured for major mixed-use redevelopment of Milford Waterfront

Acting on behalf of the Port of Milford Haven, Turley has secured outline planning permission for the comprehensive mixed-use redevelopment of Milford Waterfront, Milford Haven.

We provided expert Planning, Heritage & Townscape, Design, Economics, Sustainability and Strategic Communications input for the scheme which was approved on 1 November 2019.

The waterfront development involves the comprehensive mixed-use regeneration of Milford Dock, comprising up to 26,266 sq m of mixed-use, commercial, retail and fishing related floor space. The proposals include high quality leisure provision, up to 190 new residential properties and up to 70 marina berths. New public spaces and gardens will also be provided. Once complete the scheme will create up to 611 jobs.

The proposed scheme also includes the restoration and re-use of the grade II Listed Quay Stores building which will be extended to create a multi-functional events space.

Speaking about the permission, Head of Planning Wales, Huw Jones said:

“It’s brilliant news that Milford Waterfront has received outline planning permission. We’re delighted with the council’s decision. We have a long-standing relationship with the Port of Milford Haven and Pembrokeshire County Council, and look forward to continuing this in the future. We’re excited to work with the Port to deliver the project, with applications for the first two phases of development scheduled to be submitted in December 2019, creating a thriving and vibrant visitor destination in Pembrokeshire.”

We have been advising Port of Milford Haven since 2010. The port plays a vital role in the economy of Pembrokeshire, Wales and the UK. We originally secured a resolution to grant outline planning permission in 2015. However, owing to market changes the original outline application was revisited and updated, resulting in this positive decision.
