Our Emmeline statue stone meeting circle unveiled

The stone meeting circle that will surround the Our Emmeline statue in St. Peter’s Square was unveiled on 15 July, coinciding with the 160th birthday of Emmeline Pankhurst.

The white Portland stone circle is an important part of the overall ‘Rise up Women’ statue which immortalises one of Manchester’s most influential historical figures. Our Emmeline is part of the WoManchester Statue Project which celebrates the contribution of women to the city.

The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor June Hitchins, unveiled the inscribed circle at the ceremony on Sunday which was attended by Dr. Helen Pankhurst, Great Granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, and the statue sculptor Hazel Reeves.

We’re delighted to have been part of this project having provided Planning, Heritage, Strategic Communications and Design services, working on a pro-bono basis.

The full statue is scheduled to be unveiled on 14 December, commemorating 100 years since women first voted in a UK General Election.
