Plans were given the green light by the Council’s Planning Control Committee on Thursday 15 February, following extensive consultation and engagement with the local community and other stakeholders.

The project is being delivered through Mace, with Faulkner Browns leading on design.

The new complex, anticipated for completion in 2020, will provide community amenities for casual swimmers, learners, clubs and competition events. The landmark building is designed to be wholly in keeping with its wider parkland setting.

The state-of-the art facility will include a ten-lane, 50 metre swimming pool; leisure water for families; and a learner pool. Alongside water spaces it will also feature a gym, fitness studios, sauna and steam rooms and hospitality space.

Councillor Baggy Shanker, the Cabinet Member leading on the New Swimming Pool Complex, said:

“This state of the art facility will be a game changer for swimming in Derby. We have pledged to open this New Swimming Pool Complex to the public in 2020. Our investment in the City will ensure Derby continues to be a great place to live, work and visit.”

Associate Director at Turley, Fran Rowley said:

“We pride ourselves on helping to shape better places and sport plays a big part in this through associated health, wellbeing and leisure benefits.

“With a spotlight on the Midlands in 2022 for the Commonwealth Games, it is exciting to see new facilities like these which will support grassroots teams and individuals in our area.”
