My work anniversary in our company’s 40th year - Laura Eimermann, Senior Planner, Bristol

During our 40th year, we are highlighting the experience and insights of co-owners who are also celebrating their milestone work anniversaries.

In 2023, Turley is marking our 40th year. We are an employee-owned business. This makes us distinctive because each employee is a co-owner, with a voice and share in our success. We are invested in each other and in the communities in which we work.

What inspired you to join Turley?

During my Planning Masters course, I was put in touch with Directors in Turley’s Reading office who were open to exploring potential opportunities for part-time work alongside my course. I was impressed by the friendly and welcoming team; and I was intrigued and motivated to hear about the employee-owned culture and the benefits this presented. I joined the Reading office as a planning assistant and the team there then supported my internal relocation to join the Bristol office full-time in September 2018.

What are the highlights of your role?  What do you particularly enjoy?

I enjoy working on a wide range of rewarding projects for private and public sector clients, including helping to achieve planning permission for new hospital facilities, specialist care accommodation, educational facilities and affordable housing. The breadth of experience I enjoy at Turley has allowed me to develop my planning skills and knowledge, and has enabled me to contribute to the delivery of high quality, valuable and exciting new development in the South West, Wales and beyond.

How has your role changed over the time you have been with Turley?

Having joined Turley immediately after university, I have been given great support from the outset of my career, from developing my understanding of the planning system to being trusted to take on increasing project responsibilities and client facing exposure. I am encouraged by my team to explore new client relationships and opportunities. I am also able to provide support at a company level, having been a Charity Champion for the last couple of years and recently stepping into the Business Development Coordinator role for the South West & Wales team.

What has kept you at Turley?  What makes Turley a special place to work?

Turley is an inclusive company that values what each of its co-owners offers. Through the blended flexible working model and supportive team culture, Turley encourages co-owners to share their ideas and contributions both with their teams and at a company-level. Another key positive is that the company proactively supports learning, development and progression.

How are you celebrating/did you celebrate your work anniversary?

I am taking 3 weeks off in September, the month that marks my 5-year anniversary. I will be travelling around Thailand with my partner and then to France to a friend’s wedding (with bridesmaid’s duties to fulfil). After this (perhaps not-so restful) short break I am looking forward to continuing my work with the South West and Wales team on exciting projects, both existing and those on the horizon.

What are you looking forward to in Turley’s 40th year?

Forty years is an exciting milestone for Turley and I look forward to celebrating this occasion locally with my team and together as a company as we mark this anniversary. I hope to hear stories from co-owners new and old about their experiences at Turley over the years, and how we can look ahead to a creating a positive and successful future together. Roll on the next 40 years!
