Public invited to have their say on proposals for cutting-edge nuclear and clean energy facilities at the former Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park

Chiltern Vital Berkeley (CVB) has launched a public consultation plans to establish a new nuclear and clean energy technology park at Berkeley. Turley is providing expert Planning, Strategic Communications, Design, Sustainability, Economics, EIA and Landscape & VIA services to Chiltern Vital Berkeley for the project.

If approved, the development will offer over 600,000 sq ft of new Research and Development (R&D), laboratory, office, manufacturing, and education facilities. When completed, the development will create a world class science and technology park focused on nuclear related and clean energy businesses.

The public consultation on the proposed plans will run until Friday 18 July. Members of the public and those with an interest in the proposals are invited to visit the consultation website, www.berkeleySTP.co.uk, to find out more about the plans and provide feedback.

Following the consultation, CVB will submit an outline planning application to Stroud District Council which would agree the principle of redevelopment of the site.

The revitalisation of the brownfield site would deliver a wide range of local and national benefits. This includes supporting cutting-edge research into nuclear and clean energy technology, helping to meet critical climate goals and delivering a positive social and environmental legacy for the region. The development will create significant economic benefits, including bringing substantial new investment and job opportunities to the region.

Project Manager, Gerry Hughes, said:

“We are excited to unveil our proposals and seek the public’s feedback. Our vision is to unleash the full power of nuclear and clean energy innovation by creating world-class scientific and research facilities at Berkeley.

“Our plans would deliver significant economic, social and environmental benefits locally and nationally, whilst helping respond to the climate emergency.”
