Director, Development Viability – London and South East
We have an opportunity for a commercially astute and ambitious individual to join our established and growing Development Viability service, as a Director based in London.
Our ambition is significant; we’re aiming to grow our presence, our reach and to explore new directions in London and the wider South East region in response to client demand. To achieve this, we are seeking to expand our leadership team, by firstly recruiting a Director to be based within our London office.
We are prepared to immediately invest further on the back of new opportunities that are created. The appointed Director would be fully involved in growing and developing a dedicated team in London.
The candidate sought will preferably be MRICS qualified, with an established track record advising on affordable housing viability, and wider development viability matters, in London and the South East. Demonstrable experience of team management and strong business generation expertise will be expected.
Turley’s Development Viability service constitutes specialist surveyors with backgrounds in planning and development, valuation, market analysis and agency. The team are presently based within Manchester and Birmingham, whilst acting on projects nationally as a specialist extension to Turley’s network of thirteen offices. Our instructions primarily relate to advising landowners and the development industry on formulation and implementation of development projects.
The role will entail acting as lead advisor on viability matters to private developer, housebuilder and strategic land promoter/master-developer clients, registered providers and public sector clients. The scope of advice will generally run from pre-acquisition (e.g. due diligence), through feasibility and planning application, to post-planning stages. A core objective will be to deliver optimised returns to clients via your advice. This will extend to acting on their behalf to engage with local planning authorities (or their representatives) to negotiate the terms of Section 106 legal agreements.
Another aspect of the role would include provision of specialist viability input to promotion of strategic land via the Local Plan process. This would entail reviewing published viability evidence (including CIL) and conducting technical analysis, extending to counter-appraisal and challenge. Wider responsibilities would be expected to include the giving of evidence on viability and CIL matters at public inquiries and examination in public.
Depending on the candidate, the role could also include provision of strategic property advice, advice on delivery/funding models and governance, and developer procurement.
