This 75 ha waterfront site within Belfast Port has been the subject of development proposals for over two decades. Formerly used for ship building, it consists of docks, slipways and the former Harland & Wolff Headquarters, a listed building. As such, it was designated mainly for low rise light industrial uses in the draft Local Plan. We successfully negotiated the removal of land use and height restrictions, resulting in planning permission for a mixed use development on 25 ha of the site.

Completed projects include a gateway office building (occupied by Citi), the Titanic Belfast tourism destination, Titanic Studios, the Belfast Metropolitan College and the Public Records Office for Northern Ireland.

Redevelopment of former shipyards introduces added complexity to the development process. Turley led a team of experts to ensure early identification of issues at the scoping stage, preparing high quality planning applications, whilst maintaining positive working relationships, to ensure timely decision making.

Further projects are planned, including research and development facilities and additional film studios. The result is a substantial increase in land value and a more competitive Belfast.
