Green light for 500 new homes in Birmingham’s Southside

Turley provided planning, viability and heritage advice on this scheme, as well as conducting a successful public consultation prior to submission through our Strategic Communications team.

The scheme includes a mix of studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments across five buildings ranging from seven to 19 storeys, as well as a private residents’ courtyard, a central three storey community hub and flexible commercial space on the ground floor.

Sandeep Shambi, Studio Director at Glenn Howells Architects, said: “Kent Street Baths has been designed to be a thriving new community, with extensive areas for amenity, including a resident’s Hub siting within the central landscaped courtyard – complete with rooftop garden terrace – creating a desirable environment for people to live and enjoy.

“Designed as a family of five buildings, the scheme uses a subtle range of brick tones and textures to create a contemporary and varied streetscape that will enhance the surrounding area. What’s more, Kent Street Baths has been designed to be accessible for all with a generous city centre parking provision, areas for secure cycle parking and a new pedestrian street, as well as a series of connected green spaces.”

As part of Vulpes Group, our client Lupa Land Ltd (formerly Camborne Land Investments) has a strong track record delivering residential schemes in the South Midlands, with Kent Street Baths representing the company’s first venture to the Build to Rent market.

“Our aim is to create high quality housing that is both sustainable and accessible for modern living with Kent Street Baths set to be a thriving, sustainable and professionally managed rental community with a strong amenity offer. Having been given the green light to bring this unique Build to Rent proposition to the city we’re now looking forward to the continued regeneration of Southside and expect to start on site this summer.”
