Redevelopment of constrained former school site for major residential development
This site, formerly occupied by a secondary school for children with additional education needs, is located in the heart of the Cathcart residential area of Glasgow. The site is derelict following the demolition of the school buildings and has become an eyesore for local residents, with concerns over anti-social behaviour.
Turley was instructed by Stewart Milne Homes to lead the planning application process within a fixed timescale. Building on our existing, strong relationship with the council, we liaised closely with officers to scope the content of the planning application and address issues at the pre-application stage. We also coordinated and delivered the preapplication consultation, working with input from a multi-disciplinary team to prepare informative consultation material, designed by Turley’s inhouse graphic design team.
The site is subject to significant level changes, which impacts upon access arrangements, development layout and surrounding residential properties. Through the application submission we demonstrated how the proposed development layout and design represented the most appropriate use of the site and how it would deliver a range of house types to meeting local housing needs.
Turley submitted the major planning application for 77 new dwellings ahead of the agreed deadline and is currently liaising closely with Glasgow City Council. Determination is expected within the four month target period.
